42 scope sight manufactured by H. Houghton-Butcher Manufacturing Company based in Walthamstow, London. 42 scopes are normally associated with use on artillery weapons, but they had another wartime use. A limited number of No. 42 scopes were fitted to.

22 Winchester model 74 semi auto rifles along with Parker Hale steel sound moderators for supply to the Auxiliary Units, sometimes known as the "stay behinds", who would act as resistance units in case of invasion. These Winchester model 74s are still fairly easy to find in the UK, at very modest prices as are the old style Parker Hale moderators, so a interesting WW2 Secret Resistance. Piece of equipment could, for a modest outlay, be recreated.

There is more info about this combination on the Imperial War Museum website and elsewhere on the internet. The scope is marked as follows:- STG. There are several small rust specks, overall, but no pitting. The screw heads are not chewed up. The reticle is a fine crosshair, which may or may not be original, there were I think, 4 types of crosshair, used in these. Some parts of the No. 42, are supposedly, interchangeable with the No.

32 sniper scope, but it would seem a shame to use this scope for parts.
